We all know that meditation has very strong abilities. However, have you ever wondered how long meditation can keep a person alive? We in this article today will tell you the story of a Buddhist Saint who lived about two hundred years back.
Welcome To Mongolia
This story takes us to Mongolia. Few days back a Buddhist monk was found in the caves of Mongolia. The monk is in a mummified state. Initially everyone thought that it was just a mummy. However, after a close research into the body of the mummy it was realised that the monk never died.
The monk is still in deep state of meditation. Can you belive that? It is difficult to belive that this can happen. If you look deeper into the story you will realise how exactly it did happen. There is indeed a state that is in between life and death and this monk has truly reached that position. The doctors say that the monk is in a state of meditation that is called tukram.
This is the deepest state in meditation that one can go as per Buddhism. It takes years of practice and dedication to get into this state of meditation. The doctor of Dalai Lama has had the privilege of taking care of many monks in this state. He claims that no person can stay in this state of meditation for over three weeks. If someone does stay in this stage longer the body of the person will start to shrink. This is not a state of meditation that anyone and everyone can enter. It needs a lot of dedication.
It is believed that the monk was in this state of meditation and his body was covered with the skin of some animal. He must have been meditating is the cold mountains. His hands are placed one on top of the other and his head is bent in front. He is sitting in the lotus pose of meditation. Perhaps he had no idea that his body was getting mummified and it would be found by the modern world after two hundred long years.
The Discovery
The strangest part is how this monk was discovered after so many years. It is believed that a person was visiting the caves in the Kobdsk area of Mongolia. During one of his cave trails he located these mummified monks. He thought it was a good opportunity to make some money. So he got these mummies from the cave to his house. He had plans of selling these mummies in the black market.
However, the police have ensured that no such thing happens and the mummy of the monk gets the respect and the position that it deserves. He is being prosecuted and if proved guilty he might be jailed too for the offence. Even he had no idea that the monk was still alive. Perhaps the person who discovered the monk had no idea of what he had discovered and how big the discovery actually was.
Imagine that you find a person who lived two hundred years back and that too he had never died. The monk has now been kept in the centre of forensic expertise. This department is taking good care of the mummy as they know what needs to be done with it. Nothing can be said for sure who this monk actually was.
Is it Dadh Dasharjo?
However, some believe that it could have been the body of Dashi Dasharjo. There is not much information available about the mummy so it is difficult to say how it must have got mummified. Generally the teachers who get into this state of meditation inform their students well in advance on what they must do in case the teacher takes longer to come out of the meditation.
No one knows why in the case of this monk no close aid came to help and rescue him out of this deep state of meditation. The one theory that can work here is that maybe the monk took to the deep state of meditation and he did inform his closest assistants on how and when to wake him up. Maybe as the monk was meditating some natural calamity stuck and the close aid was not in a position to get his teacher out of this deep state of meditation.
As a result the monk remained in this state of meditation for over three weeks. After that his body started to shrink and he became a mummy. He remained in his solitary confinement for two hundred years before his mummified body was recovered again. The monk never died he was just in a state of deep meditation always and will always be.
A state of mind that is so deep that no one can get back from it so easily. In this state the mind is one with the universal power. The nails, hair and the skin of the mummy are in excellent condition. The body was not damaged at all in all these years. The snow of the region protected the mummified body very effectively. The mummy of this Buddhist monk is indeed a very unique discovery. It is unbelievable how this mummy could survive such harsh weather and also animal attacks. We hope that we will be able to preserve and protect this mummy so that the students of Buddhism and meditation can learn more from this mummy.
We have heard many a times that the saints do not die they just leave their body in deep state of meditation. This has been proved even in the case of many famous Hindu saints. This mummy of the monk is a great example of how saints have the ability to bridge the gap between life and death. It is unbelievable how someone could be in state of meditation for about two centuries and perhaps even for eternity. Many of us may still not belive that something like this can happen. However, it is not a story but it is all about facts.
